Embarking on a Lifelong Voyage
For over 46 years, I’ve navigated the waters of the aquatic industry, dedicating 36 of those years to ensuring the water quality at Wet ‘n Wild Orlando was nothing short of excellent. My journey didn’t stop there; I ventured further into the industry with a six-year stint at Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay, always ensuring the water was pristine and safe for all.
From Humble Beginnings to Industry Expert
My career started right after high school when I joined Tropicana Pools. That job wasn’t just work; it was where I found my calling. It taught me the ropes of pool building and maintenance, setting the stage for my later role at Wet ‘n Wild Water Park. Joining Wet ‘n Wild in 1980 as a Water Chemist was a pivotal moment for me, marking the start of an incredible journey in waterpark management.
Sharing Knowledge as a CPO Instructor
I’ve always believed in passing on what I’ve learned, which led me to become a Certified Pool Operator instructor. Teaching others and contributing to the growth of the aquatic community has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.
A Career Adorned with Accolades
Along this journey, I’ve been honored with the WWA Executive Board Award and was inducted into the WWA Hall of Fame in 2022. These moments stand out as highlights in my career, symbolizing the passion and dedication I’ve poured into the aquatic industry.
Memorable Moments
In 1981 I met the woman of my dreams at Wet ‘n Wild. She worked in our Ice Cream building. I was eating breakfast one morning and was reading the paper and she sat down to ask me what I was reading, and I said the movie list. She said that she would like to see the new Muppets movie; (this was my que) being a fisherman I took the bait, and we have been together ever since.

For those looking to dive into the aquatic industry, I’d say: remain humble, always be ready to lend a hand, and seize every chance you get. This industry is not just about managing water; it’s about creating experiences and ensuring safety for everyone who takes the plunge.
Beyond the Waters
While my professional life has been deeply rooted in aquatics, my personal interests take me to the ocean’s vastness and beyond. I cherish offshore fishing, scuba diving, and exploring the Caribbean. My love for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, seafood festivals, and live music adds another layer to my life, reminding me of the world’s beauty beyond the waterpark gates.
In reflecting on my career, I see a journey marked by continuous learning, sharing, and a deep love for the aquatic industry. It’s been a voyage of discovery, challenges, and immense satisfaction.
