Making Waves: 22 Years in the Aquatics Industry

My entry into the aquatics industry was unexpected—I have been in the aquatics industry for 22 years, transitioning from part-time summer work to a full-time management role. My journey has been both rewarding and unexpected, allowing me to grow within a field I’ve come to love.

From Classroom to Poolside: Building My Career

Before diving into aquatics, I was an elementary school teacher for 8 years. My experience working with children has been invaluable, as my current employees are often just a bit older than the students I once taught. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to see these young people grow and succeed, knowing I’ve played a part in their development.

Recognizing Excellence: Honors and Awards

I’m proud to have been the first recipient of the IASS Vera Solis Leadership Award in 2022. Additionally, I’ve been honored with the Best Presentation Award at Ellis & Associates’ International Aquatic Safety School. Our Wild Island team has twice earned the Ellis & Associates Platinum International Safety Award, and The Coconut Bowl at Wild Island was named the Top Family Entertainment Center of the World by IAAPA in 2022.

Beyond the Pool: Life Beyond the Aquatics Industry

Outside of work, I love staying active through skiing, soccer, and racing. Skiing offers a refreshing escape in the winter, while soccer keeps me sharp and engaged. Racing, however, is my biggest passion—there’s nothing like the adrenaline rush of being on a dirt track. These activities not only keep me physically fit but also fuel my determination and focus, which I bring back to my professional life.

Laughter and Memories: Highlights from My Career

Working in the aquatics industry has given me countless memorable experiences. The camaraderie among colleagues is something I deeply value—I’ve met some of the most creative and fun people here. From ensuring safety to sharing laughter, each day brings new stories and memories. The friendships formed in this tight-knit community are built on shared challenges and successes, making my time in this industry incredibly rewarding.
