Senior Director of Operations and Maintenance at Wet n Wild Hawaii
Making a Splash: 17 Years in the Aquatics Industry

I have been in the aquatics industry for 17 years, evolving from entry-level roles to management positions. This journey has been filled with new challenges and learning opportunities, reinforcing my passion and commitment to the field.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Purdue University which has contributed to my business knowledge. On the practical experience side, I have worked at 5 different waterparks, as well as in an operational consulting position with StarGuard ELITE and Innovative Attraction Management.

Diving Deep: My Path to Aquatic Success

I originally wanted to pursue a career in designing and building roller coasters, but after my second year as a lifeguard, I decided I truly loved this field and wanted to stay. I changed my major, and worked with my mentors to chart my own path of success.

Beyond the Pool: Passions and Pastimes

My Wife and I are avid Disney fans and love to travel to new parks whenever we can. This shared passion allows us to explore and draw inspiration from the creativity we encounter, enriching both our personal and professional lives.

Spotlight on Achievements: Sharing Knowledge and Experience

While I haven’t received specific awards, I actively present at conferences and tradeshows. These events allow me to share my expertise, stay updated on trends, and connect with industry professionals, expanding my knowledge and fostering collaboration.

Splashes of Humor: Memorable Moments in Aquatics

I have too many memories to choose from, but they all stem back to 1 major message….. stay humble and be ready to do whatever it takes. Throughout my time in the industry there have been so many times I have helped do things that some would say “are not my job” or “you have other people to do that”, but I find it best to want to help wherever it is needed. Whether I am doing the round of chem tests for my CPO, cleaning poop from a pool, making pretzels in the kitchen (don’t worry, not right after the poop in the pool!) to overall jumping in wherever it is needed, I have grown only from being welling to help.

Diving In: Advice for Aquatic Aspirants

Find great mentors and chart your own path for success. Be willing to take risks, try new things, and make mistakes. You only know what you know, and everyday strive to learn at least one new thing. The aquatics industry is very small and close knit, and if you are a dedicated person, word will travel, and you will succeed.
